We have a new way of assessing Travel Grant applications that goes live in November this year!
To help us manage applications and available funding, we’re moving to a set schedule for reviewing travel grant applications rather than assessing them as they come in. From November 2026, travel grant applications will be reviewed every two months. We’ve set application deadlines based on the period of travel.
Pūtahi Manawa travel grants are designed to support Pūtahi Manawa researchers, collaborators and community partners to travel for purposes such as building relationships, gaining new research skills, forging research collaborations, and presenting their research.
In 2026 to date, we have awarded 16 travel grants, providing approximately $86,000 in funding. These have been for a broad range of travel including a Pacific Island Clinicians conference in California, multiple international conference presentations, and a trip to Finland to explore traditional Finnish approaches to sauna bathing.
If you’ve already started planning your research-related travel for 2027, we encourage you to apply for a Pūtahi Manawa travel grant now.
You don’t need to wait until your conference abstract or presentation has been accepted before submitting your application, we can award funding conditionally, pending the acceptance. You also don’t need to wait until the deadline for your travel period to apply, the sooner, the better.
