Māori summer research with Pūtahi Manawa: an update

After three successful years, Kura Raumati will not be running this coming summer, but the partnership with Pūhoro STEMM continues.

Our incredible programme lead, Erina Korohina, has stepped away to focus on her PhD studies. Assoc. Prof. Karen Brewer, Pūtahi Manawa Co-Director Māori, says, "We are deeply grateful for the immense work she has put into leading the programme over the past three summers."

Kura Raumati was a summer research programme initiated by Te Ara Poutama Integrated Research Module in 2023, led by Erina Korohina, hosted by The Centre for Health and co-funded by Pūtahi Manawa and the Heart Foundation. To ensure we maintain the high standard of delivery and mentorship Erina established, we are taking this time to carefully transition to new leadership and design the next phase of our programming.

This summer, Pūtahi Manawa will run a scaled-back Māori research programme in conjunction with Pūhoro STEMM. There will not be an open call for student applications for this programme, but we will seek supervisors and projects for Pūhoro STEMM students as we have done for the past three summers.

We remain committed to supporting our future researchers. Information regarding Māori summer research opportunities for 2027–28 will be announced next year.
